Disruptive Behavior
DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR DURING PRACTICE SESSIONS:
Disruptive behavior during practices will not be tolerated. The intent of practice is meant to improve technique and endurance. The coach will handle disruptive behavior or behavior contrary to the Code of Conduct during practices. If necessary, the coach reserves the right to dismiss the swimmer from practice and the team. This type of behavior may be addressed by verbally reminding the athlete of the Code, a period of sitting-out, or dismissal from practice. Emphasis will be placed on educating the swimmer on the Code of Conduct in an effort to resolve the issue. Disciplinary action will be executed as follows:
· 1st infraction- reminding the athlete of the Code of Conduct and redirection to the desired behavior.
· 2nd infraction- athlete is set out. The length of time of punishment is determined by the coach. The main focus of the coach remains with the group. After being set out, the coach will remind the athlete of the Code of Conduct and redirect to the desired behavior.
· 3rd infraction- athlete is removed from practice. If athlete has been dismissed from practice, they may not leave the pool deck area until the practice session is over and the coach personally speaks with and dismisses the athlete. Should the athlete wish to call their parents for immediate pick-up, they may do so with permission from the coach. They must remain on the pool deck until the parent arrives and the coach is notified that the athlete is now under parental supervision. The discussion of the incident must be postponed until a time that is convenient for the coach.
· 4th infraction- athlete suspension. In the event of a suspension. A meeting time will then be set with the coach and parent to discuss possible reinstatement to the club or permanent dismissal. The Coach reserves the right to expel an athlete for behavioral reasons at their discretion without refund.
· Under no circumstance will the coach, while coaching on deck, engage in a conversation with a parent concerning the individual disciplined during a practice session.
· If the behavioral infraction jeopardizes the safety of swimmers, or if a swimmer continues to violate the Swimmer’s Code of Conduct after repeated and documented attempts to re-educate as to the Code, an immediate and temporary suspension may occur.
· It is the coach’s responsibility to inform the parent following a reprimand that dismisses an athlete from practice. This may be done verbally (in a private location) or in writing.
DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR DURING MEETS:
Disruptive behavior can result in an individual’s expulsion from the meet and is usually handled by the Meet Director or Meet Referee. If serious enough, the entire club could lose its opportunity to compete.
